The Pandemic has finally brought pressure of on street parking to be used for alternative uses. Including micro Mobility parking.

While in London the most pressing and evident would be for restaurants and cafes to start to utilise teh council owned parking spaces. With the pandemic forcing the hand of councils to provide resturants and cafes more on street dining. While not prevent pavement walking.

The most obvious solution was to start to use the parking spaces.

During Covid, the political barriers to reclaiming curb spaces from free street parking were removed, said Maya Ben Dror, head of transportation at the World Economic Forum.

Commuters started working from home, freeing up these precious parking spaces. Meanwhile, restaurants and other businesses needed outdoor space in cities to be enabled to continue to trade in a safe manner.

The on street parking licenses Pavement licenses - which can run for between three months and a year - were due to be phased out from the end of September 2021.

But they will now run until the end of September 2022.

Mr Jenrick who at the time was Sectary of state of local government said: 'We're all looking forward to seeing pubs, cafes and restaurants open again 'Therefore, I'm delighted to announce an extension on temporary provisions for pavement licences for a further 12 months.'

'This will give further certainty to businesses as they recover from the effects of the pandemic.'
