2022 will be the year for micromobility

If 2021 was the year for rendering the scene for micromobility in the UK.

2022 is surely going to be the break out year. With finally the realisation from Government and legislators that micromobility solutions solves amble real world problems.

The Pandemic drove individuals to look for personal transporters. Add in an increase in car costs with fuel price hikes.

While cities in 2021 have finally come round to realising that cars not just emissions are part of the problem.

The lithium powered personal transporters of ebikes and escooters finally were taken as serious alternative in 2021.

While 2022 the magic will be realised as the verstility as a public good will be accelerated.

WIth the UK both extending trails in towns and cities. Plus will start to pave the way for legislation.

Probably in a not too different apporach to Ireland's recentlegislation.

Ebike Glory:

2021 was the year of the e-bike in the UK. While escooters still banned, Ebike sales grew expoentially.

A growth rate in sales of 240% over the 12 months. A radical drop of deliveries will be done on internal combustion engine moped. Replaced by the electic bike.

The Conversation grew around how micromobility solved emissions Plus reduced traffic at the same time. Perhaps micromobility is the urban silver bullet we have been looking for.

Paris now aims to become a 15 minute micromobility city. London is growing even more bike lanes for ebikes to enjoy. While scooter riders to enjoy too.

EBIKES EBIKES EBIKES

While now the USA subsidies worth up to $900 off a new e-bike’s purchase price. The UK Government might well follow suit.

While bike and escooter firms realising that Ebikes are actually more verstile in cities that Escooters. With a greater deal of public and meid acceptance to them as a form of shared mobility.

Tony Ho, vice president of Segway’s global business development, told TechCrunch, a tech blog “Now it seems like the e-bike is getting a lot more traction and we’re seeing the mix start to even out and seeing a lot more orders on the e-bike side for sharing. And for the cities, it’s a no-brainer because they have bicycle sharing programs to begin with.”

Innovation will see a new world arise.

Batteries become the Swap

from Electric battery swaps to three wheel hero ebikes. We are at the foothills of the mountain if innovation that is set to be unleashed. It is now up to the UK Government to provide the suitable framework to allow both home grown and international micromobility firms of all sizes to operate and thrive. With a light touch regulation environment for micromobility and improved infracture such as more bike lanes.

2022 will become the year that micromobility becomes The mobility platform. Micromobility as a service will march on!

Small added services will begin to evolve around the mobility platform. Just like how the Iphone and smart phone systems began to throw up a a whole range of solutions sitting on top of the micrmobility platform with the apps.

Expect to see added solutions onto the platforms.

With mobile mapping services further promoting micromobility as a traffic alternative to cars and public transport.

While Helmets with visors that gives augmentation of the reality in a similar way as afighter pilot has 360 degree vision will come onto the market for 2022. While for the UK especially, the most pressing challenge of the weather will see closed hooded micormobility systems come to the market.

Companies like Arcimoto are working on tilting three-wheeled electric vehicles with hoods that should be ready or close to going to market in 2022.

In short 2022 will be:
