This morning we had the privilege of being shown around the Dott Micro Mobility Warehouse and speak with the team.

Dott is one of the three London Escooter operators whose slogan is “free our cities with clean rides for everyone".

__Sustainablility: The Dott Micro Mobility ream were exceptionally keen to stress their sustainability in fleet management.

Dott mostly use Cargo bikes where they can and Electric cars when the distances are bigger. There is currently a high demand for cargo bikes, but we are aiming to run as much of the operation by cargo bike as possible. We also run all of our warehouse on renewable energy."

E Scooter Parking:

What we discussed a range of challenges of operating shared micro mobility fleet in London.

The principle challenge operating in London and other urban ares is the wide variety of distances between designated parking bays.

Some councils in London such as Camden have been the most generous with a higher density of Escooter bays than others in London.

While other capital cities have a much higher density of designated parking bays.

this density of parking bays is one of the largest drivers of E scooter take up in cities.

The further away the designated e scooter parking bays the less likely people will take the e scooters. This relationship of distance of escooter bays and usagage is properbly logarithmic. (ED)

A tale of two cities:

In London there is around 150 sq km of servicable e scooter areas and have a total of 383 designated parking bays.

Comparing this to Paris which has around 90 sq km serviceable e scooter area there is a totl of 2093

Centralised tendering process:

Dott were keen to stress the quality tendering process for three operators through a centralised hub of TFL. This enabled for greater speed of role out as councils were able to delegate decision making to TFL.

The process, according To Dott with TfL has been very collaborative, and it has been very beneficial to work closely with them to ensure integrating the service in a way which benefits riders whilst considering non-riders, in a consistent process across London boroughs.

Single operators in areas limit choice:

In parts of the UK there are councils that do only have one operator. Dott explained how they would always welcome competition, because it encourages transparency, quality of service and accessible pricing.

This is most effective when limited to a smaller number of operators so that they can also remain commercially viable.

E bikes multi Modal coming for Dott:

Dott have recently announced they are deploying E bikes to London. To join their E scooters to be launched soon.
